First Visit

Your Child’s First Dental Visit

Your child’s first dental visit should be scheduled around his/her first birthday. By the age of 1 we can begin checking for signs of proper development and creating positive associations with visiting the pediatric dentist. The most important part of your child’s first visit is to get to know us and become comfortable with our doctors and our team. A pleasant, comfortable first visit builds trust and helps put the child at ease during future dental visits. We will provide anticipatory guidance, discuss positive oral health habits and teach your son or daughter the importance of healthy teeth and gums. One of our goals is to make our practice a place of education for your family so your child can become independently healthy.

To set your child up as a new patient, please start by filling out the pre-screening form and new patient forms. We look forward to seeing you in the office!

Insurance and Financial Services

We feel that every child deserves affordable dental treatment without sacrificing quality. Your treatment plan will include a breakdown of all applicable fees, and we will inform you of all costs before treatment is administered. Payment is expected at the time treatment is rendered unless special arrangements have been made prior to your appointment.

For your convenience, we accept cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, and CareCredit.

As a courtesy, we will submit insurance claims on your behalf. We are a preferred provider for a variety of dental insurance plans. In addition, we also accept patients with Caresource, Ohio Medicaid, and Molina following a referral from their general dentist. We will fully attempt to help you receive full insurance benefits; however, you are personally responsible for your account and we encourage you to contact us if your policy has not paid within 30 days.

Scheduling

We know that your schedule is busy, and we try to be as accommodating as possible. Our office is open five days a week for your convenience. Dental treatment and the placement of appliances are usually done before 1:00 pm as children do best in the morning. We reserve after-school hours for preventive visits and most parents find those times most convenient for their children’s schedules.

Except for the occasional emergency situation, we strive to be on time and expect you to extend the same courtesy to us. Your appointment time has been reserved exclusively for your child, and any change affects many other patients. Should you find it necessary to reschedule, please give us 2 business days notice so that the time reserved for your son/daughter may be given to someone else. Please call us if you are running late. If you are more than 15 minutes late, your child’s appointment may need to be rescheduled.

  • Cavity-Free Kids
If your child gets to their checkup without any cavities, Hines Little Smiles will include them in our Cavity-Free Club! By offering fun and recognition for their hard work, we motivate your kids to keep their teeth sparkling. Read more on our Cavity-Free Club page.
